Grafik magazine and Designers Are Wankers have teamed up to uncover the design writing talent of the future. Our new design writing competition Future Perfect will give the winner an opportunity to kick-start a real design writing career. It is open to all previously unpublished writers. We're looking for interesting voices, clear thinking, crackling prose and a no-fear attitude to questioning the design establishment. If you think you have what it takes to shape the way people write, read and think about graphic design, walk this way...

 

Brief

Write an 800 word article in response to one of the following titles:

01 Graphic design's best-kept secret is...

02 A manifesto for the modern graphic designer.

03 Advertising is the root of all evil. Discuss.

04 In what ways does design education leave its protégées ill-equipped?

05 Designers are wankers. Discuss.

 

 

First Prize

For one overall winner:

01 A paid writing assignment to interview an international design studio in a future issue of Grafik.

02 An Apple MacBook.

03 Publication of your article in Grafik and on designersarewankers.com.

04 A regular column on designersarewankers.com.

05 Dinner with the Designers are wankers guru of your choice.

06 A library of essential design books.

07 A year's subscription to Grafik.

 

Runner-up Prize

For three short listed entries:

01 Publication of your article on designersarewankers.com.

How to enter

01 Send your entry as a Word doc on a CD to Grafik, 104 Great Portland Street, London W1W 6PE, UK.

02 Any supporting images must be supplied clearly labelled, on the same CD.

03 All entries must be accompanied by the signed and completed form below.

04 Entries must arrive no later than midnight Friday 20 April 2007.

 

Rules

01 Only one article may be submitted per entrant. Articles must not be longer than 800 words.

02 Entrants must not have published any written work in print in a professional capacity on or before the competition closing date of 20 April 2007.

03 All work submitted must be wholly original in content and all quotes or images used must be fully accredited.

04 Winners and runners up will be announced in the August issue of Grafik.

05 Grafik Ltd reserves the right not to print any work in breach of these rules.
